Ok so I have a problem. I want to hook up one DV Camera, by firewire, to two computers, so the computers will be doing different things to the camera...so it will be like one computer has one program open and the other has another, but they both have access to the camera, i dont know if it is possible but if you have any idea how this would work, maybe with a firewire hub or something please let me know

The camera can only perform one action at a time. Even if you split the FireWire connection, DV cameras use a tape. To tell the tape to rewind and fast forward at the same time would...not work. Just be patient and do one at a time.

Fast transfers between networked computers?

I have a high speed router and two computers running off of it. I know that there's a way of getting them to be able to transfer files through the router at the router's top speed and just bypassing the internet connection but I haven't figured out a full-proof strategy. When I use yahoo messenger, it works sometimes. But only maybe 1/4 times. Is there some program I can get somewhere that's made to transfer files from computer to computer along the same network?

Hmm. A little hard to answer concisely. I'm assuming that you are running Windows. You need to set up file sharing on both computers. Run the Network Setup Wizard on both machines. Then select some folder, say My Documents, and enable it for sharing by right clicking, selecting Properties and going to the sharing tab. You can make a folder read-only or read-write depending on your desires/needs. Do this on both computers.

Then you can use "My Network Places" to find one machine from the other. At that point you just drag-n-drop files between the two machines.

I know this is kinda sketchy. You should try searching on this YahooAnswers site for answers on setting up home networks. I know I've seen this question exhaustively answered.

How are computers used by nature researchers and organizations?

Is there any specific applications that help protect the environment?

Scientists use computer for pretty much everything nowadays. Even environmentalists and conservationists. They can make computer models to predict deforestation and even habitat restoration based off of existing data.

The part of computers that is an environmental problem is when they are discarded and fill up landfills. They also tend to use a lot of power which then indirectly feeds the need for coal burning power plants to power them. This is however, a rather obscure connection.

Environmentalists love computers. I know I do.

How can computer companies make such cheap computers?

My husband wants to build computers, but can't figure out how to keep up with the "man." Especially when MS OS %26 MS Office cost so much to buy. Help!?!

How can computer companies make such cheap computers?

Most large computer manufacturers are able to purchase large quantities of memory, hard drives, motherboards and other hardware components at steep discounts. Therefore it makes sense that they can offer you "cheap" computers. But most of these computers use lower end processors such as Celerons or Semprons which do not provide the performance of Athlons or Pentium 4s.

The same holds true for software, they buy large quantities of Office and Windows from Microsoft and they are given a discount. Of course when you buy a computer prices are marked up a little so the company can make a profit.

If your husband is really interested in building computers (as a living?) or for himself I reccomend taking a look at Extreme Tech's step by step guide to building your own computer.

Glad I could help. Report It

Also, the computer companies are not allowed to give you the original CD's for the software that is preinstalled. The only way that you can get the OS is compressed on a "System Restore" disc, this usually wipes everything out and starts over as if you just took it out of the box. Report It

I would like to purchase a computer sytem for a new office. Three computers will be netowrked togeth

I will need a router. There are certain requirements from the software for the hardware....do they mean all three computers or just the router to support the software. If there is a router to connect all three computers how do people in other offices get the internet wirelessly. Do we need a wireless router. AND what kind of computers Dell? Compaq? HP? and a service department not in India (are there any?) Thanks

Dell are ok.

If you think you might expand your network in the future then you need a server. This contains the software and the 3 PCs access the server. The server is also connected to the Internet with firewall.

You might be better off hiring a company that does networking.
HP's service department is in a country south of the Himalayas. Their computers are good, but their tech support would be better if they used Answers - I've seen better technical expertise here - from people who can't have graduated from high school - than I've gotten from HP Tech Support.

If you want internet connectivity, you'll need a router - whether you want to use wireless or not is your choice, but wired is faster (between computers - wireless is still far faster than your internet connection), more secure and easier to maintain. (Just look at all the "I get limited connectivity on wireless" questions here.) If all you want is to connect the computers to each other, all you need is a switch or hub, although you won't save much by not buying a router - maybe $25.

How many computers can I install Windows Vista with only 1 disc?

I have 2 computers, but I only want to buy one Vista CD. So, can I install it to both of my computers with CD? Is it legal?

How many computers can I install Windows Vista with only 1 disc?adware remover

Probably won't fly. I know you speak of Windows Vista, but I assume it will work like XP and probably moreso. Let me quote from the WindowsXP Gigabook, by Peter Weverka.

"Windows installer makes you type the unique 25-character code that's printed on the case of your Windows XP CD. Later, the Product Activation programs looks at various serial numbers inside your PC - the processor, network card, and disk drives, etc. -- mixes them together, and produces a second 25-character code that identifies your PC. Those 50 characters, taken together, are called the installation ID.

When you activate Windows XP, you give Microsoft the 50 character installation ID.

I'm going to skip some information here -- to continue -- every time WindowsXP starts, it recalculates the 25-character code that's based on the various serial numbers inside your PC. If the recalculated 25-character code doesn't match your original code, the activation time clock starts over and it continues to remind you relentlessly, etc. etc.

All this and much more is covered in Chapter 2.

I bought this $35 book for $3.50 and shipping at www.amazon.com as a used book.
