What causes my computers to lag?

Sometimes when I play video games on my laptop and computer, they lag. I don't run any other programs and I don't have any viruses. I have all the requirements to play the game and I disable my firewall. There's more than enough free space on each computer and I haven't downloaded anything lately and I have DSL which isn't as good as RoadRunner, but it's fast enough.

Another time, neither of my computers lag, but when I play against my cousin, it gets so laggy, that we both turned invisble in the game. Everything's been fine for the past 2 months. Do I need to port-forward my router or get better internet?

What causes my computers to lag?download

So if playing the games locally, it doesn't lag, but the online play does, it has something to do with the Internet connection.

Are you using a wireless connection on the notebook to connect to your router? If so, try switching it to a direct wired connection.

I've seen performance gains from that alone.

If wireless, you might have been picking up interference from other wireless networks, or devices.

What causes my computers to lag?hijackthis

Broadband is usually faster. Look into it.
go to microsoft under downloads, get "spy bot search and destroy" follow the prompts, defrag your computer to,then delete anything your nt currently useing

should fix the problem
Do you mean lag as in choppy movements, and slow cursor movements?

Or do you mean long delays between results whenever you perform an action?

If the first, then you probably need some better hardware.

If the second, then you probably need some better internet. If you have a program that sucks up your bandwidth (like torrents), then exit it.

Perhaps defragment your computer occasionally.

Can one printer serve 3 computers?

I have 3 computers connected to the same wireless server to access the internet. Only 1 computer has a printer. If I "network" the computers, will one printer serve all 3 computers?

Can one printer serve 3 computers?downloads

obviously ,yes.simply connect the 3 computers using "Lan" , install the software on all the 3 coms.connect the printer to any of them and then from its properties in the control panel enable the "shared printer" option.

Can one printer serve 3 computers?house call

Yes, as long as you have a 3 hooked up to the same wirless net work. I have 3 that use the same one.
Yes of course

All you need is to share your printer in this way :

To share your printer

Open Printers and Faxes.

Right-click the printer you want to share, and then click Sharing.

The options you see on the Sharing tab differ depending on whether sharing is enabled on your computer. For instructions on what to do next, click the option that describes what you see on the Sharing tab.
yes, you can access the printer from all 3 computers. For this you have to install printer to one of the computer and physically connect to that. After installing and connecting printer, simply use drag-drop feature to connect printer to other computers.
Yes you can just install the software on all the computers
Simply put yes. We have dozens of computers at my work that do print using one printer
Yes . that's very easy .At first you must creat network with your computer.then share your printer on your pc,then on the two another pc brows that pc which connect to the printer.you can see the printer in share file .then wirth klick on the printer and then select connect to printer.Ok now you can send a print to the printer via server computer.Have fun
Yes one printer can serve the three printer but you have to share the other printer to the one that the printer is install.

thanks
It certainly will. All you have to do is right click on the printer and in the share tab click the share this printer. Give it a name. That's it.
yes, it's possible.

just right click on printer icon, click on sharing

then you can find from the other computer by click on search printer or computer

Can computers replace peolpe?what do you think?

i belive that in many fields of work computers have successfully taken initial steps in replacing people. if we don't watch technology advances closely, computers will be victorious in their path to world domination.

Can computers replace peolpe?what do you think?ducati

It is dominating but i dont think it will reach a point where it would completely replace people.

Can computers replace peolpe?what do you think?hp

i don't think so...since man is the end user of technologies...unless someone develops a humanoid... hehehe....

computers were developed by man and i don't think they will work without us...

your giving me an idea what to develop after my studies...hehehe
Nope, computers can't replace people. Computers are built to do things differently and react to the world in a much different way.

Besides, try to "unplug" a human being, what happens? And who wins wars, not computers, that's for sure. Why is religion so important? (does a computer care?). Why do emotions mean so much when we try to understand people? Would a computer care if you were angry enough to buy a sledgehammer and smash it?
Computers have already taken over the world. Not in a science fiction way,but we depend on them so much now.Everything is ran by a computer in some way.Scientist are trying to create a computer with artificial intelligence. That would be a big mistake. If the computers ever compute that they don't need humans, the dominant may become the dominated.
in a way we are dominated by computers and machines . look closely around you ,humanity are being digitalized . everything about us is stored in computers ( social security numbers , id and so on ) . our identity is lost . computer domination is happening but not like movies ( robots or artificial intelligence
What are you talking about initial steps. Manufacturers have already replaced many positions that used to be held by people with computers. The main concern is not computers taking over the world, but human error that causes a computer to set off every nuclear warhead known to man. You should watch the movie wargames. : )

Desktop computers....?

Do most recent computers have a dvd hard drive?

i am getting a computer with windows vista and i was wondering would that have a dvdv drive?

Desktop computers....?firewall

If you mean can they read CD and DVD's then yes...most also can burn DVD's as well.....Vista is the operating system and comes with media centre and other programmes which allow you to copy DVD's, burn CD's etc....

Desktop computers....?husqvarna

it will if you ordered it with 1 but nowhere is it written in concrete that all new computers come with a dvd rom. if it's running vista it will at least have a dvd rom since vista comes on a dvd it's to bloated to fit on a cd.
Yes, computers now a days come with a DVD-RW drive (a.k.a a drive that you can watch DVD's on).

However, sometimes you need a decoder to watch DVD's on your computer.

For this, get Cyberlink PowerDVD Trial. You get 30 days, and after the trial, the decoder still is in your pc so you can watch DVD's with it.
i think you got a bit confused the hard disk the is the device that stores data. Most PCs now a days do come with a CD/DVD drive but just check when you buy it.
there is no such thing as a dvd hard drive, it will have a dvd drive yes. also it will be a dvdrw.
All new PC's nowadays have a DVD read/write drive in them. Even the cheap ones. If they didn't, they most likely wouldn't even sell!
yep current technology is dual layer. fastest practical (usable) speed is 16x dvd. You can get 18x but as far as I know its not actually possible to burn at that speed. yet.

I have 3 computers, 2 of them are on MSHOME and 1 is on WORKGROUP?

I have 3 computers, 2 of them are on MSHOME and 1 is on WORKGROUP?free adware remover

to get them all in the same workgroup, go control panel/system/network identification/properties, click on it, a box will pop just name your workgroup pc to mshome, then reboot the pc. once youve rebooted they should all see each other, dont forget to enable file/print sharing, if you want to share files etc, also make sure the above isnt ticked in the firewall otherwise you wont see anything. later dude

I have 3 computers, 2 of them are on MSHOME and 1 is on WORKGROUP?internet security 2006

All computers that you want to network must be in the same workgroup for them to be able to see each other.

I believe MSHOME is the default name given by the Windows Home Networking Setup wizard to name your workgroup.

I think WORKGROUP is the default workgroup name given by Windows XP.

Basically, all three computers must have the same workgroup name to be able to see each other.

So you could change the computer that is in the "WORKGROUP" workgroup to the "MSHOME" workgroup then they will all match and all 3 computers will be able to 'see' each other.

Why do two computers with the same IP address appear on my network?

I am running McAfee security center. There is a network manager that lets you see what computers are using your wireless network. When I look at mine, I see my named computer with it's IP address, but there is also an unnamed computer on the network that has the same IP address. My laptop and iPod touch should be the only two devices on the network. Should I be worried about this?

Why do two computers with the same IP address appear on my network?free anti virus

Have you tried to access it? It sounds like you may have someone leeching your wireless connection, and they may also be able to access your computer as well. Do everything that you can to block or remove this computer..

Why do two computers with the same IP address appear on my network?internet security software

Possibly, you can also reboot your router and reestablish your connections. There should be a teeny little button on the bottom of your router somewhere. Just hold it for I think 30 seconds, it will reboot itself. My router does anyway, it may be similar.

2 computers to 1 modem?

i have 2 computers connected to 1 cable modem, 1 PC connected by USB and the 2nd by ethernet.

my question is, how can i share files on this computers?

is it possible to send any king of files from one pc to other?

if yes, how!?

thanks for help!

2 computers to 1 modem?free antivirus download

You would need to fit a router to the LAN port, and both computers to the router to obtain networking.

2 computers to 1 modem?internet security

Does your setup for Internet sharing works well with both USB and Ethernet? If yes, well, it is the first time I see that. I don't know what is your modem model and if your ISP permit to have two different IP addresses. Anyway, the best and most secure method to share files between your two PCs and get at the same time Internet on both, is to share with a router. There is some inexpensive wired-only routers in many stores. Follow routers instructions and you should be in business to share Internet. Thereafter, for files sharing, that's more a Windows story! You will get your two PCs on the same network so to be able to share files, setup basic files sharing in Windows.
Just get a crossover cable, connect it to both pcs, manually set them ips 192.168.0.1/2 and the same subnets e.g. 255.255.255.0 and then enable file sharing, and put them both on the same domain. No need to buy a router. Ask more questions if needed :)

My dad says I break computers and I shouldn't help my sister with hers. What to do?

So this morning my sister's computer was acting weird. Something with the graphics card, I dunno what cause I wasn't told. Anyway, she let it slip that I had put songs on her iPod, and dad got it into his head that somehow, doing that messed her graphics card up (I never put the songs on her HD; just dragged and dropped from an SD card into the iTunes window). He yelled at me about it, saying that I can't be trusted with computers cause I always break them; he said he had to reload my old computer several times when I was younger (which is a complete lie; it only happened once). He said I'm not allowed to help my sister with her computer at all because I'll just make it worse. I can't even say a simple thing like "Delete desktop icons for programs you'll never use". He also berated me for getting the iPod songs illegally (you can ONLY get them in Japan, and some are hard to find. He hates Japan, btw, but even if I told him the songs are Japanese he'll still have a BS excuse).

So, there is a lack of trust here. You in him; him in you. that is hard to rebuild but it can be done over time.

Getting a degree just to "show him" is not going to make you happy in life. Pursue something YOU are actually interested in. Jobs are out there; you can even create your own business with enough drive and ambition. How about a job that involves analyzing PCs to make them faster for folks? You can use all sorts of free sites like PCPitstop as a tool that they might not otherwise be familiar with.

Find computers on your Wireless Lan?

I want to be able to search for and find a computer on my wireless lan. I want to be able to get on one of my computers with internet and then do a search and find the IPs of everyone that is connecting to it. Google hasn't helped.

BEST ANSWER IS JUST WAITING TO BE VOTED ON!!!

Find computers on your Wireless Lan?free spyware remobal

If this is your network, then you should have accesses to the router. With that accesses you can tell how many computers are on your network and what there assigned IP addresses are.

If it isn鈥檛 your network then you shouldn鈥檛 need to know. Ask the admin. How ever, you can always pick up a port sniffer and it will tell you the IP addresses of all the computers on you network. This could be considers illegal though.

Find computers on your Wireless Lan?kawasaki

If you go into your router settings and look at its status you will see all the IPs connected to it. The only device that has an external IP address is your router and it will tell your that as well.

If you want to see all the external information including the DNS IPs, open a command prompt and type in "ipconfig /all" without the quotation marks.
Mc afee Security Security Center has a "manage network'' tool on its program that is better than anything i've tried, you will see, trace. every computer anywhere anytime you want.Check it out i dont think it is free, igot it pre loaded for 18 mths. Its the best.

How do I put two computers on one ethernet cable?

I have a 4-port router/switch that has 3 computers attached with ethernet wire. One more computer gets its network from the wireless. It is near one of the other 3 computers but at least 50 feet from the router. I would rather not run another 50-foot wire parallel to the existing one.

Can I use another switch at the end of the 50-foot wire to serve 2 computers?

How do I put two computers on one ethernet cable?free spyware remover

sure you can use another switch, you can use as many as you want

How do I put two computers on one ethernet cable?ktm

yes, I'm doing exactly that at home.
Why not just get a wireless card ($20) for the other computer. Wireless range is typically 300 meters
You could purchase a PCI-ethernet card that you could install onto your computer, connect the ethernet cable (directly connecting your laptop to your other computer) so that it could access the internet through it.

You could connect a swtich to a router. It would also make the the network more securely.

Do computers have a timed automatic shutdown feature?

I am seriously needing to get disciplined with my computer time. Does anyone know if most or any computers have an automatic shutdown feature that activates after a specified time period. (No, setting an egg timer doesn't work for me. I always come up with an excuse to stay on for a "couple more minutes").I have a Dell Dimension 2350 Microsoft Windows XP Pentium 4. I bought it brand new in 2002.

Thanx in advance.

Do computers have a timed automatic shutdown feature?free spyware

There are utilities like PowerOff and ShowStopper (look for them on Google) that you can configure to shut your PC down at predetermined times, but doing so could - and probably would - bring things to a halt in the midst of something you're doing that you don't want to lose. Self-discipline is the real answer. You can't always expect the world to do everything for you.

Do computers have a timed automatic shutdown feature?live update

you can use free download manager software. It has an automatic shutdown feature which can be used to shutdown the comp. Hope it helps :-)

Arpan
You could make a shutdown file via the shortcut desktop and run it from a scheduled task.

Shortcut:

Right click the desktop-%26gt;new-%26gt;shortcut-%26gt;"SHUTDOWN -s -t 300" (no quotes, -t 300 means it will shutdown in 5 minutes; 300 seconds. Set it to whatever value you like)-%26gt;next-%26gt;leave as default-%26gt;next/finish

Scheduled Tasks:

Start-%26gt;programs-%26gt;accessories-%26gt;System Tools-%26gt;Scheduled Tasks-%26gt;Add Scheduled Task-%26gt;Next-%26gt;Browse-%26gt;find the short cut you made on the desktop-%26gt;then mess around with the settings until you find what you like

Edit: Type it in just like this including spaces but without the quotes:

"SHUTDOWN -s -t 300"

Incidentally if you repace the "-s" with "-r" it will reboot the machine.

once again.....if you have 3 PC'S, each one will already have their own IP and MAC addresses....those are their unique identities on the net so they can be recognized from all the rest of the PC's on the net

I have 3 computers, each needs a completely different and unrelated IP address AND Mac address. HELP!?malware

IPs are completely unrelated except for the device to which they are connected. It seems like it would be easier to stop ebay from installing spyware an cookies. Why not use a secure proxy service?
A mac address is assigned to the LAN hardware and each computer is assigned its own IP from the router.

You could install mysql and be able to setup each as its own server with dynamic IP's

Tiny computers that run on Windows...?

At my new job, they've got these little computers (screens are probably 6" or less). At first, I thought it was like one of those GPS systems that you would see in a car because it was displaying a map. Later I walked by and saw the Windows XP desktop.

My question is- what kind smaller computers like this are available?

These are probably UMPCs - ultra-mobile PCs. They do indeed run fully-fledged Windows versions, but it is debatable whether you can effectively use them, what with the small screen and other limitations.

Can a minor work with computers??

Im looking for some extra cash I can get to help me along with things. Im only 15 right now, turning 16 at the end of this year. I was wondering if a minor can do somthing like, well, you know how kids do lawn mowing or yard work for other people for money. well can a minor work on computers. I have a computer place in town i can work at when im old enough or when they hire and i already know alot about computers. My friend said somthing like we dont have a degree in computer science and we would need a permit. but im thinking that if its your own business, you dont really need a degree, and if you keep the income to a minimum you wouldnt have to have a permit and wouldnt have to put it on your taxes.

My first software job my first day was the first day for a 14 year old boy. His mom worked there as a programmer and he was hired in software support. He did whatever was asked of him then studied operating systems in his spare time. He was promoted to software support rep and wasn't bad at all. It always seemed the hardware was the easy part and systems guys usually ran wires for networks on weekend when not everyone was in.

Most young people don't know enough about computers to do much but it is a great time to start.

yea u dont need a degree or nething if ur just fixing and repairing comps
Why not ? There are some really a good way of making money online being at home. There is no need to pay at front.Just basic knowledge of internet is enough.Further it is much much better than online paid surveys %26 data entry..Just try it out there is nothing to lose since u r not going to pay..
you need nothing except expertise and clients. you can even earn millions of dollars. plenty of people under the age of 21 and 18 do make lots of money. the key is to PAY YOUR TAXES! Technically speaking, even the kid mowing lawns or babysitting should be reporting that as income and paying taxes.

Do all vista computers have AV hookups in the back of the computer?

It depends on the audio/video cards installed on your computer motherboard, usually there are AV jacks/ hookups on the slots on the back to plug in or you can use USB cable on USB slots at the back if your X box support it, these slot should be there whether you have Vista or Xp as operating system, as soon as you plug in windows will automatically detect, if not then you have to download and install driver on your computer from the CD which comes with Xbox.

Our Computers?

So I was talking to this very nice guy that i met in a chat room. Well we decided to turn on our webcams and have alittle fun. Then we started talking about computers and he was telling me that if I ever need a fix just to call him up and he'll come over with his hard disc and that there's no viruses or no risk. I told him that he can come over to my house and squeeze the mouse because it's coming out. Then We got on to him telling me how he could put his hard drive into over-time and break in my floppy drive. We both agreed to try each others lap top out to see how smooth or fast that they can go. I told him that mines might download alittle faster than his but he told me that he didn't care as long as he could also download as well. So he asked if we could hook-up tomorrow but i'm still new with all of this computer stuff and haven't had much experience. So should i do it?

Yes, the military affords some of the best training in netops and network security out there, and those skills are both highly desireable and easily transferable.
It certainly depends. The experience with the Air Force may get you in a company as an intern if you are going to school, but if you plan on just going to work then many companies require a bachelors degree or certifications for high end jobs.
Most likely. There are exit workers that can help you get placement as well as usajobs.com for DFAS jobs that take your veteran status into consideration as well as clearances in getting you into a position. Good Luck!
When my cousin was discharged from the AF, he went to work for IBM as a technician, that was 29 years ago and he's still there.

How should I synchronized my files from one computer to another. These computers are link thru an intranet.?internet

There are two answers to this question, as it wasn't clear what your preferences are.

If you want folders on two networked machines to be in sync, and each machine is to have a local copy of the file, I suggest you take a look at Allway Sync (http://www.allwaysync.com/)

which is free for non-commercial use. I believe this requires both machines to be running Windows, and you didn't say which operating system you are running on each machine.

A network share will allow a folder on one computer to be mounted on another. Since both machines are accessing the same folder, they are always in sync. The way you would set up such a share depends on what operating systems are running on each machine. For example, under Windows one machine turns on file and printer sharing, then opens the sharing tab in the folder properties, turns on sharing for that folder and assigns the share a name. The other machine (which should be on the same domain or workgroup) then browses the first machine, selects the shared folder and maps it to a local drive.

i have noticed that alot of the new computers now are being sold with sata hardrives and ddr2 memory. i dont think they sell all the old ones so what do they do with the old parts and models.

What do computer companies do with computers they cant sell?live update

I'm assuming you're talking about new computers. This is a basic supply and demand scenario. Supply with no demand.....time for a sale. The lower the demand, the lower the price. Ever wonder why companies like Dell have so many sales? The worst thing a company can do is throw away its stock.

There's also donations, such as for schools and other charities. At least then there can be a tax write off.

What do computer companies do with computers they cant sell?norten

It is totally dependent on different companies, but most of them have the confidentiality policy, so one thing that will definitely be destroyed/disposed: the hard disk.

They will usually destroy the logical drives of the hard disk to render the data inside unrecoverable or to completely destroy it to pieces using special shredders or being flattened.

As for other parts, they may sell other parts quite cheaply to employees, charitable organisation or others through other menas. Some may also destroy the PCs completely by flattening them or shred them.

I did this the other day at my house, (using 3 xp os and 1 vista) it was kinda tricky since I wasn't too familiar with vista, But I ended up networking the xp machines together first, then had the vista machine find the network which it did. So you could probably do somehting similar.

Can I network several computers with and OS of XP and the server is Vista Ultimate?nortin

I believe that Vista Ultimate still has a maximum of 10 connections allowed, like XP did. As long as you have less than 10 clients on the network it should be okay, but if you get more than 10 clients you'll need to upgrade to a server OS.
Vista does support networking with XP (and Win 2000 and ME and 98SE and 98) computers.

How much do dell computers cost? What do dell computers come with?malware

Dell computers may be overpriced, but in my opinion, big companies makes reliable machines. I have 3 desktops and a notebook all from Dell which I'm still happy with.

How much do Dell computers cost? It varies. Computers are cheap when it's the end of the school year (like a graduation gift) and computer price goes down before school starts (i.e. college freshman). Black Friday sometimes has great prices on computer... that's on the day after Thanksgiving.

There's always specials such as free monitor, free printer, free upgrade, etc.

The basic stuff Dell computers come with is you get a mouse (usually the ones with the ball), it comes with a keyboard, mouse pad, manual and other nonsense advertisements. You can always upgrade the mouse, keyboard, etc.

To gather price is to visit Dell.com or visit their site if they have a kiosk or store near your area. For example how I got to know my laptop was I visited a Dell kiosk in my local mall.

Do a Google search. Type "Computer review" without the quotes in the search box. You may also add the word "Dell" as in "Dell computer review".

if you have the newer itunes you click on your ipod on the left of the menu in itunes and it comes up with a menu saying the capacity, product number, and who it is registered to, click the box at the bottom of that page that says manage music. then you can drag and drop all the music you want from both computers and all the others you can do this with.

Ipod HELP-How do i download songs to my ipod from two different computers?norton 2008

As far as I know there is know direct way to do this, itunes will only allow 1 computer association at a time.

However there may be a work around. Maybe try this.

Sync you ipod to 1 computer. Then go to the second computer and use software to extract the songs from your ipod and add them to the second computers library. Then sync your ipod to the second computer.

I believe the software to extract songs from your ipod is available at ephpod.com

Hopefully that makes sense

Yes, all you need is a router. I have mine connected to two computers full time and a third computer part time. I sometimes have both computers connected to the Internet at the same time.

You are paying for the service line. How you use it is up to you. Of course the more computers using the line at the same time, the slower it will be.

How do I make a home network with 2 computers?

I want to connect my kids computer to my cable internet access with a wireless router. They'll be on the same floor, but in different rooms, about 25 feet apart.

I'd also like for us to access files between the computers and for them to be able to use my printer, if possible. What do I need for that?

I've seen starter kits that come with the base and a card to install in the computer, do I need to buy an additional card for the second computer, or is the base for the first computer and the included card meant for the second computer? This is so confusing. Please help.

How do I make a home network with 2 computers?microsoft

Ok, you have your cable connection coming into the router via the WAN port. There should be 4 LAN ports as well. One should be connected to your main computer. I will assume that is your setup.

Now you have 2 options for the second computer. You can run a cable, which will be faster and more reliable. Or you can use a wireless card which is easier.

To set up the network, your router should have an automated setup wizard. After that is done, you need to go onto your computers and make the drives and printers as shared.

How do I make a home network with 2 computers?norton ghost

u didnt tell us what internet service provider do u have. I a tech support from sbcglobal.net but basically, when the two rooms of your kids have a wireless adapter. %26#123;if not you need to get a those wireless adapter%26#125; as this adapters are the ones that will detect a signal transmitted from the wireless router. Somehow, it depends in the network connections, u just have to set-up wireless connection icon in the two computers of your kids using the main computer... you will have to troubleshoot that one and the two others will follow..%26#123;take note.. this will be after u installed the wireless adapter%26#125; the first clue is that when u see that the adapters light are in green, then ur good to go. if not or if it is bliking or in red or orange, it means it is detecting a signal or there is something wrong with the configuration. I can help you with that but the main point here is that, u need to call your internet service provider because sometimes, the routers arent compatible with the ISP's. If that happen you need to call the manufacturer of the router. then they will help you configure that out. If not .. or if you bought the router to the store from your ISP you're good to go dear. No matter how long it will be, they will give u full assistance. Trust me! I even troubleshoot computers with blind owners.
You failed to mention what systems you are running so I'll guess, with xp systems just click on start and start the tour to get quick and easy step by step instruction
Yeah, well, wireless networking isn't as simple as all of those atomic physicists make it out to be. If you get a wireless router for by the cable modem (between the modem and the desktop it is plugged into now) you can connect that one with wires, then just put the wireless card in your kid's computer and follow the setup instructions it should fulfill what you are looking for here. Get the wired one working first so you can access the router's setup page to set up the wireless part. Using a wireless card from the same manufacturer as the router is probably a good idea, especially if they are sold together. That way you only have one tech assistance number to call.
what you need is the internet cable connection (you have it), and a HUB, a router and depending if you wanto to make it wireless or use wires. what the HUB does is administrate the information flux, it gives each pc a ID number, so when you request a page the router knows that the page loaded most be redirected to your pc and not to your kid's. and the same thing is with the printer

Can't see any computers in Entire Network in Windows 2003 domain?

I work as an IT admin in a small company.

We recently moved many of our XP machines from an NT4.0 domain to a Windows 2003 domain(DomainA). The problem is that now when you click Entire Network none of the computers in the network show up. We didn't have this problem when all computers were part of the NT4.0 domain. The NT server is still running, but it hosts a different domain (DomainB)

I've examined the packets going across the wire, and the computers are broadcasting NetBIOS names, DNS %26 DHCP is configured on the 2003 Domain Controller. I'm running out of ideas. Can anyone help me?

Can't see any computers in Entire Network in Windows 2003 domain?moto guzzi

If I'm reading your notes correctly, your computers are currently joined to the old domain. IF this is the case, they won't be listed under the new domain, as their listing will be controlled by the local browse master.

Two things you can do...

1. Leave the old domain and rejoin each computer to the new domain.

2. Establish a trust between the two domains and allow mutual browsing in the settings

Can't see any computers in Entire Network in Windows 2003 domain?norton internet security 2008

Two thoughts. First, have your run "ipconfig /flushdns" and "nbtstat -R" to flush your cache? If your computers are still holding the old domain information for your hardware, the new configuration won't show up, sometime for days, until your cache clears.

Second, do you have a subnetting/routing issue? If the computers are on a different subnet or behind an internal router you could exhibit this issue.
Did you actually add these computers to the XP domain? I doubt that giving your 20003 server the same domain name as the old NT4 server would work...

1. Go to the spybot site and download the software. It鈥檚 totally FREE

2. Install it in your computer

3. Run it and check for latest updates. Once you found them, download and install them (that facility is given in the system. No need to do manually)

4. Run SpyBot and search the system with you鈥檒l find more spywares than 鈥渂ywust.dll鈥?

How many computers can be connected to the Internet using a wireless router?

I have a Comcast provided wireless router at home.

4 of us can surf the net with no problems. However a 5ht and a 6th computer cannot be used to connect to the Internet. Is there an upper limit on how many computers can talk to the Internet when one uses a wireless router? Or is there something we are doing that is not right?

How many computers can be connected to the Internet using a wireless router?nortan antivirus

Depends on the router. Most wireless routers have a setting for the number of IP addresses that the DHCP server will allow at one time.

How many computers can be connected to the Internet using a wireless router?nortonantivirus

254 with the default DHCP settings
Check with your broadband provider

You might need to get a better router
You should be able to connect all of your computers to the same router. Try turning off one or two of the computers you already know work to see if the 5th and 6th will connect. If they do then yes your router strangely can only handle 4. If it still doesn't work then you are doing something wrong in the inital connection. Good luck!
i belive its 5 for a basic brodband servace, thats what i have.
ideally, it should be able to give you 256 network connections...remember the ip numbers? normally 192.168.XXX.XXX the numbers go from 0 to 256 and the ip is given either by the router or the server, but in a basic router configuration is router.

How many computers can I install Windows Vista on using one key?

I bought a copy of Windows Vista, but I'm worried that it might not work on more than one computer and require a different key for each system I install it on. What is the maximum number of computers I can safely install Vista on without needing another key?

I have the Home Premium Edition.

You can use it on all your computers.. you just need to call them if the product key wont work so they can change it.. u should give me a product key to lol... but yeah it will work on all your computers, if it wont work u just need to go and call the costumer service thing when ur on the "activate windows" box and provide them with that number located in the middle and they will change it for ya

How many computers can I install Windows Vista on using one key?panda

2 at the most. after that the product key becomes useless.
One, unless you want to break the law and not get any windows updates on the other computers.

Because windows will find out, they have this program they runs in the background, that can tell whether not it is legal and if it isn';t a message will popup saying that your copy is not valid and will not go away until it is valid.

So that means, if you want vista on more then one computer, you will need to buy a copy for each.
I heard that only one copy per pc, if you install it on more then one they will disable the activation keys.
You can only install it on one computer. Actually, you can only activate it on one computer. If it tries to activate on a second computer and finds that that copy has already been activated on a different computer, then Vista will go into reduced functionality mode. This means that it will remove the start menu and desktop icons. All it will do is start up IE and connect to Microsoft, where you can legally purchase a second copy. It will also shut your computer down after an hour of use.

I believe you can purchase multiple license packs for less, but you'd have to check the MS site for details.
Depends on what kind of key you have. If you just have a retail version out of the box, then it is just one (unless you want to not to be able to get updates). But if you were lucky enough to find a site license key then you could load it on as many as you wanted.

Try getting wireless adapters. I don't know how to use a wireless router to share files, but if you use Ad-Hoc (computer to computer) you can go to My Network Places and go into the other computer's shared files

P.S you should get wireless-g for faster file sharing

How to connect our computers?pc security

just get a router and run the network wizard on each of them ..
if you have a router (most dsl/broadband modems work this way) and if all computers are connected to the internet through the router, then you already have a local network. Just configure all computers with the same workgroup name (under network settings in control panel), and they should see each other.

otherwise, just equip all computers with an ethernet card (if they dont have one already), and buy a basic hub. (if you have a router/modem for internet, that does the job)
What Nick B said! But don't forget to allow sharing! (Under "properties".

How to connect Four computers with one Hub in windows xp?

I am having four computers and one printer. I want share the printer so that i can acess the printer from any computer. and i having one hub which i am using for Internet.so please tell me how can i connect these computers and printer.

How to connect Four computers with one Hub in windows xp?norton 360

THe hub must have three unused port (duh..hehe)

Then connect the wires from each computer into each port available on the hub.

Once all are ok (try to access internet from each pc), then the next step is to configure the HOME NETWORK

1) Start--%26gt; My Network Places

2) Setup a home or small office network

3) Next, Next , Let me choose another way blah blah

4) Other, Next

5) Select "This computer connects directly to the Internet or a network hub" --- First option

6) Then complete the installation by clicking NEXT....and so on.

7) No need to make installation diskette.. just finish

Do this on all 4 computers.

If you do it correctly, you should be able to access files across each computer.... e.g computer 1 can access shared folder on 2,3,4...and vice versa.

NOTE** Sometimes Firewall can pose problem. To test, temporarily turn off the firewall, just to see if indeed firewall are causing the problems.

Cheers!

Retrieving data from dead computers?

is there a piece of equipment to retrieve files from dead computers. over the years i have several computers that just quit working. i would like to retrieve files from them. the computers will not power at all. and if there is, how expensive is it?

tks.

Retrieving data from dead computers?norton 2008

Buy a a external USB hard drive conversion kit. They aren't that expensive and you don't have to change or worry about master/slave settings on you current computer since it's not going to be connected to the IDE controller. When you are done you can use the largest hard drive for storing files in a safe place.

You can get one at any decent electronics store.

Retrieving data from dead computers?pop up blocker

The hard drives can be transferred, ( re-connected ) to a working computer, often it can be a DIY project. Should be inexpensive to have swap done by a computer service man.
I bought a USB hard drive case for about $40.00 I took HDD for my old computer and stuck it in and hooked to my working computer via the USB and accessed all my files. But I guess this wouldn't work if the HDD was screwed.
All you have to do is hook up the hard drive from the dead computer to another computer and you can grab the files off of it.
yes just buy an external usb bay for harddrives and you drop in the old drive and you can use it like a flash drive to find your old files

Running two computers off a router.....?product key

I am running 3 computers off of my router.

2 of them are plugged in and the other, my laptop uses wifi

so, yes it is possible to run more than one puter off of a router
Yes it is possible, in fact, most wireless routers were built with that functionality in mind.
Every wireless router has LAN ports as well.
If the router is wireless then yes you can
A router's purpose is to allow several LAN pcs to access the internet. If you have a wireless router it also has some wired ports. You can connect some pcs to the wired ports and others to the wired without a problem.

Note that whenever you configure the router you should use a wired connection.

Can I connect to computers by joining a phone cable between their modems?

I realise the best and fastest way to connect two computers directly is using ethernet or a special USB cable or whatever, but I don't have any of that to hand right now and I need to do this now.

I have a regular phone cable, can't I just plug this cable into each of the dial-up modem ports on each computer and share files, etc between the two computers this way?

Can I connect to computers by joining a phone cable between their modems?norton antivirus

no. If you joined two actual telephones together with a bit of phone wire you couldn't phone yourself up with it. Computers use phone wires to make actual phone calls to each other. That's actual, normal, audible voice calls. It's just that their conversation consists of meeeep SCREEEEEEE and so on.

If they both have ethernet ports (RJ45 ports, network ports, whatever) you can join them with a crossover cable. That is NOT the same as a normal network cable. It will be labled "crossover" or it isn't one. That's the easy way to do it. Or USB or other serial cable type stuff.

Are there any bicycle computers that actually hook up to a computer (for trainer purposes)?

With the colder weather hitting, I've gotten myself a mag resistance trainer and moved my bike indoors. I have a cheap but decent enough bike computer (odometer, speedometer, etc.) that I now need to move to the back wheel, and get spacers for, etc. so it will be close enough to the magnet on the spoke. All that is fine.

But in the meantime, I was wondering if they made any (reasonably inexpensive) bicycle computers can that actually link to a laptop via firewire, USB or Bluetooth, so I can get nice big readouts and maybe even software that tracks your workout overall? If yes, but expensive, what are they anyway so I can take a look?

(Otherwise I'll just use what I have!)

Mostly I just want a really big screen! I just hate having to squint to read numbers off a tiny 1" screen!

(And oh yes, I need to get myself a regular tire. Everyone in the house laughs when they hear the knobby mountain bike tire wailing against the resistance wheel. Sounds like I'm taking off!)

.

Are there any bicycle computers that actually hook up to a computer (for trainer purposes)?software

Reasonably inexpensive, no.

What you might want to get is the cycle computer that has sensors for the back wheel and the crank arm. That measures distance, time, speed, and cadence (crank speed).

For training purposes there are trainer specific tires out there but I wouldn't waste the money or effort to find them. Buy the cheapest smooth tire you can find in your rim size. I keep an old tire that I mount on my (road) bike for the purpose of not wearing my expensive rear tire, not the sound.
I agree with the other answers unless you think that spending $1,000 or more is reasonably inexpensive.

Is it possible to create home network (4 computers) with only one modem?

I have Windows XP in all computers, all have ethernet cards, and my main computer is connected to internet via a cable modem that runs from the ethernet card to the modem that runs to the cable system plug therefore my cable interfaces, ethernet麓s and modem麓s are linked and ocupied by present cable. yes it is. just plug the ethernet cable coming from the modem to the main port in the router. Then Plug in Main computer and any other computer into the router. Should not have to configure with any setting too. good luck. hope that helps

Yes you can, either buy a cross over cable, or make one!

The cheapest way and, not always the most appealing method

Clip the following wires in half.

Solid green

Solid orange

White with green stripe

White with orange stripe

Now cross these wires as follows:

Solid green on end one crosses with solid orange on end two.

Solid orange on end one crosses with solid green on end two.

White with green stripe on end one crosses with white with orange stripe on end two

White with orange stripe on end one crosses with white with green stripe on end two.

You can use this method to splice the wires instead of getting a crimper, but it is advised to solder the wires together, and cover well with electrical tape, or shrink-wrap.

This is a bit ghetto, but informative I suppose.

Run the Internet connection sharing wizard in windows.

Do keep in mind that unless you use the USB cable supplied with your modem "I do not recommend" you will need two Ethernet cards in the PC connected to the modem.

How can I access the other computers on my home network?

I have a Linksys wireless router, a Dell desktop and an IBM laptop, both running Windows XP Pro. Both computers belong to a workgroup called OurNet. From the desktop, I can see the laptop in My Network Places but it won't let me in gives me a dialog box that I'm not allowed in and to talk to an admin. From the laptop I get the same dialog box, but at the workgroup level - it shows me the name of the workgroup but it won't show me which computers belong to the workgroup. I have set up shares on both computers. What am I missing?

BTW, my son took the laptop to a school sponsored "LAN Party" and had a similar issue - could get "on" the network but could not access any file servers, and no one could access his shared folders. Whether or not that's a good thing is an issue for another day, but I'd like to get it to work so that at least these two computers can trade files back and forth, share a printer, etc.

You can put xp on a machine that's got vista now why not go down to you local computer retailer and ask them to sell you a computer with xp on it, it wouldn't take long to remove vista and install xp
Of course you can put XP on a computer with Vista.
the online stores would be more likely to have xp still available.
