Career in computers: what to choose from what?

I am about to finish my college during which I studied computers, physics and maths. I want to study computers but which fields are available ?

Career in computers: what to choose from what?pop up blocker

Just the PC world is hiring. Otherwise you might want to rethink your major.

Career in computers: what to choose from what?systemworks

Forget what texan said, crappy generalization! The IT world is still a world full of prospects. What you wanna study depends on which field you interested in. Also depends on certain other factors. Like networking has the least math involved while programming has the most. Networking and web designing/programming are two of the most lucrative areas right now!
there are alot of fields available whats your major/degree?

you should have or continue to take different types of computer classes so you will know what you like...., networking, troubleshooting, internet, web development, security, computer forensics, hardware, software, programming...theres a lot....

Avid Editing and Building Computers?

I am a video production student, who is just starting to learn the Avid system. I'd like to buy the program we have with is Xpress Pro. That's not an issue, get the student discount, etc, but what exactly are all these other external parts I am finding? Are they just the different ways to get footage onto your computer, or do you need something other then the program itself to run the program?

In another subject, I would like to build my own computer that would be compatible for this program and all it does. I know a bit about computers already, and some of the basic parts, but what, especially for the Avid program would some of the are some of the parts and models of which (for space and making sure the program runs nice and smoothly on it) that I would need?

Avid Xpress Pro will run on a PC or Mac.

Wireless Netorking Between 3 Computers?

OK. So, in our house we have 3 computers. 1, which is downstairs witht he router, this one, which is connected t the router via wireless PCI card, and a third one which is not connected. Now, what I want to do is connect the 3rd pc with the router without having to connect cables on two different floors or having to buy a wireless adapter. What I tried to do was enable sharing between this computer and the 3rd one but that didnt seem to work. Does anyon know of anyway i can sort of recieve the internet connection from my router then 'bounce-it-off' to the 3rd computer? Thanks.

Wireless Netorking Between 3 Computers?security

You have to have a wire, a wireless PCI card or in some manner the third PC has to be Wi-Fi enabled. Their has to be something in the computer that will receive the signal that is being transmitted from the wireless router. I understand that you don't want another wireless PCI card but if you change your mind I got one on eBay for less than 10 dollars.

Unless you have dial up internet you don't ever need internet connection sharing. In the case that you do have dial up you will need the computer with the modem, turned on all the time.

With dsl or cable internet you can go directly to the wan port on the router form the cable or dsl modem. That way no computer on the network depends on another.

No TV & Computers = Better Life?

Does this sounds true? Not having any TV sets in your home may lead to a better life? People would have to read more to get news and entertainment, or leave there homes to watch TV at a friend's house. People would not sit as long watching something.

Of course, getting rid of all TVs and Computers in a household could also prove to be devistating for addicts. There are always bars and internet cafes however-but some are stricken with antisocial anxiety making that option not very realistic.

Who here doesn't have a single TV or Computer in their home? (i.e. your not at home right now obviously then..hehe)

Do you feel it helps your life feel better or worse. You can get a lot more done without them. You get more fresh air away from staring at things...you move around a bit more...are these true?

No TV %26 Computers = Better Life?software

As much as I hate to admit but you are 100% correct. I am addicted to the internet. I have a bunch of daily sites I must visit under my favorites. I spent countless hours during a week, "socializing" or "learning / reading" on the internet. I would completely be taken off my toes if I stop using the computer for a DAY. Although I can see myself being more social, more excercise, more out going if it wasn't for the internet / video games. I can't speak for others. Internet in a way ruin my life, but I learn a lot from it as well.

Are desktop computers crappy?

Hi, I have had a laptop computer my whole life, and for some reason I am under the impression that desktop computers are slow. Are they? can they be as fast as laptops?

-i am thinking about buying a desktop, but i want it for more than just school work

Are desktop computers crappy?spyware removal

Desktops are as a rule, faster for the dollar than laptops. The fastest desktop you can buy is MUCH faster than the fastest laptop you can buy, and is a comparable price.

(I am confused why you would think this.. It is easier to fit the bigger, faster components in a desktop than it is to fit it into something that sits on your lap.)

Are desktop computers crappy?virus protection software

well, mine is super slow %26 stupid, but my friend has 1 thats faster than a laptop... %26 its all tricked out with 2 monitors %26 all these cool things...

it all depends on which 1 u get
Desktop computers are FASTER and generally less expensive than a lot of laptops !
Laptops generally cost 1/4 to 1/3 more than a comparable desktop and are more expensive to repair or upgrade.

Desktops are also easier to work on, as in repair, than laptops, and cheaper also.

You do loose the ability to just carry it around of course, just kidding.
Speaking in generalities, desktops are faster then laptops. This is because laptops use smaller, more energy efficient, compressed parts. Desktops allow you to use full sized CPUs, RAM, video/sound cards, mother boards, hard drives etc. Why do you think when New Line Cinema rendered the Lord of the Rings they used over 500 Desktops to create a super computer? Not, 500 laptops.

Help! We're switching computers!?

We're switching computers because our old computer was getting fixed, now that it's fixed and we're getting the old one back, How do I go about saving all of my Favorites/Bookmarks and all of my pictures on here to the old computer?

Help! We're switching computers!?spyware remover

As far as favorties and bookmarks, I would think you could email those links to yourself than go online on your old computer, go to email and download those links.

Pictures, depending on how many you have either use a CD and burn onto the CD or if you have quite a bit, use a flash drive. You could email the pictures to yourself also.

Flash drives are easier than CD's and hold much more info.

You can also export your favorites from internet explorer. Click on the file menu, then import and export. Just choose export favorites. You can then save them all into a file. On the new computer, choose import instead of export to load them back into internet explorer. If you use firefox, then click on the bookbarks menu, and choose organise bookmarks. From here you can choose the file menu, then the export option.
it depends on what operating systems are in the new and old systems, but as a demo ill say they are both Xp, to get the favorites (for internet explorer) firefox is different, go to :

Unless you're doing a lot of file sharing or downloading a movie or a large number of files, it should have no observable difference. The wireless router runs at 54 mbps, the Ethernet runs (probably) at 100 mbps, but your Internet connection runs at less than 10 mbps.

No, one router is fine. If you're having trouble with slow speed, etc., then it's the computers problem, not the router's.

The computers are good but the after sales service leaves a lot to be desired. It won't matter how much extra cover you buy because if there's a fault with it they will tell you that you've got the wrong cover. Delivery times can take a long, long time and you'd do yourself a huge favour if you bought one from a shop for example Currys. Better to go somewhere where you can deal with a real person and not someone behind a computer.

How many computers can use windows vista software on.?triumph

Windows license is for one computer only. You will have to buy a another license for your second computer.

If interested in details... read on.

When you install Windows and activate it, windows creates a unique identifier for your system that is based on the hardware of your system. That identifier (or hash) is sent across the network and your windows is activated. If you change the system, or upgrade/change significant hardware (like CPU) windows will assume it to be another system and wont work.

well i wud not recommend reformatting of the disk drive as that should only be the last option. try usind anti spywares at least three of them to clean up the mess ... then run an anti-virus program, then u'll also have to clean up the registry...if u reformat the hard disk (if u are using windows) then unless u have a windows cd... reinstallation of the os is going to be a pain ...(not so if u are using a pirated version) well if in any case u still want to reformat it (which is not very healthy in case of magnetic disks... u should refrain from reformatting them as the problems might reappear with the next installation) then u'll first need to have a bootable OS cd or need to create a bootable disk... then u may boot up the comp with the disk inside and reformat or repartition the disks as u want ... using the format command and the fdisk command
Insert your Operating System CD (Or a BOOTDISK)

How are computers hacked?I want to know about it.How are passwords stolen? How can u avoid it happening to you?adware remover

Absolutely nobody is immune to hacking. Hackers find a way around almost everything. The best thing you can do is buy a program such as Norton Internet Security 2007 or McAfee 2007 and keep them updated. Every time a new virus or hacking method is created, Norton or McAfee will notify you and if you update it, it will recognize the hacking attempt or virus and stop it. If you don't update it, then the program wil not see the virus as it will not notice it exists.

How to share files between two computers through internet router ?

I have two computers that are connected to internet through a router. the desktop has a bigger HDD, I want share files between these two computers, or monitoring the other computer. Thank you Computer gurus.

How to share files between two computers through internet router ?virus protection software

You should be able to do this by configuring Win XP correctly. Try right-clicking on any folder and choosing the "Sharing" tab. Then you can share the folder between two computers. Now, each computer has a name. Go to "System" in the Control Panel and then click Network Identification, where you can find out or change the computer's network name. To reach a computer on the network, choose Start | Run and then type "\\name" where "name" is the name of the other computer. Depending on the security configuration of Win XP (which I don't know how to manage--sorry), you may be asked for a user name and password to access the other computer or a folder within it.

Do colleges require certain computers?

I'm a high school senior and I want to get a laptop. Right now I have a regular (desktop) computer and, along with my printer, it takes up all of the space on my desk. If I get a laptop, I'll have more space on my desk to do homework. That really is my main reason. I asked my parents and they said sure, except that they had heard that some colleges require certain computers. They think I should wait until I go to college to get a laptop. I've never heard of this. Is it true? Do different colleges require different computers? Thanks. :)

Do colleges require certain computers?virus removal

yes colege should have fast computers.

Do colleges require certain computers?anti virus protection

I've never heard of such thing. Colleges don't care about the computer you use so long as you get your papers to them typed and with a legible, standard font. Most computers have the exact same capabilities so there's not really a reason for them to pick and choose.
Usually desktop computers are placed on larger computer desks and that might be part of the problem. But you should wait until college, when laptops are a necessity and become more crucial. that way you will be able to get the latest technology at a time when you need it most. and no I have never heard of colleges requiring a particular type of computer except perhaps for certain majors, such as business or computer science or certain types of engineering. wait until college definitely, though. it's more important then.
I have never heard of this. My experience has been that college is full of situations where you will be expected to have a computer, but not any specific kind. I got through my first year with an old mac laptop and the rest with a desktop running windows, and neither way was really a problem.
Some colleges make recommendations on brands or types of computers. They also have special deals and sell the types they recommend at a student discount. That being said, some colleges, like art schools, strongly recommend Macs, some business schools recommend Windows. Check with the colleges you may be applying to.
College may require certain types of software, but not usually certain types of computers. You may also be able to get a discount as a student---some schools have deals with certain companies. Wait until you know where you plan to go -- then ask the school. And wait for a sale.

I agree with the guy above, you need to get a router.
Hi,

You may required Networking Switch to split the your network. No need to disturb the line wire, what you need to do is, the wire plug that connected to the computer's ethernet card now need to pulg, to the Switch(Network spliter), and from Switch you can connect to your two computers.

While buying the Switch you need to check its capacity of spliter, you need to pre-plan if you required to connect the internet for more computers(2+)

Fast transfers between networked computers?

I have a high speed router and two computers running off of it. I know that there's a way of getting them to be able to transfer files through the router at the router's top speed and just bypassing the internet connection but I haven't figured out a full-proof strategy. When I use yahoo messenger, it works sometimes. But only maybe 1/4 times. Is there some program I can get somewhere that's made to transfer files from computer to computer along the same network?

Fast transfers between networked computers?vista

Hmm. A little hard to answer concisely. I'm assuming that you are running Windows. You need to set up file sharing on both computers. Run the Network Setup Wizard on both machines. Then select some folder, say My Documents, and enable it for sharing by right clicking, selecting Properties and going to the sharing tab. You can make a folder read-only or read-write depending on your desires/needs. Do this on both computers.

Then you can use "My Network Places" to find one machine from the other. At that point you just drag-n-drop files between the two machines.

I know this is kinda sketchy. You should try searching on this YahooAnswers site for answers on setting up home networks. I know I've seen this question exhaustively answered.

Scientists use computer for pretty much everything nowadays. Even environmentalists and conservationists. They can make computer models to predict deforestation and even habitat restoration based off of existing data.

The part of computers that is an environmental problem is when they are discarded and fill up landfills. They also tend to use a lot of power which then indirectly feeds the need for coal burning power plants to power them. This is however, a rather obscure connection.

Environmentalists love computers. I know I do.

How can computer companies make such cheap computers?

My husband wants to build computers, but can't figure out how to keep up with the "man." Especially when MS OS %26 MS Office cost so much to buy. Help!?!

How can computer companies make such cheap computers?

Most large computer manufacturers are able to purchase large quantities of memory, hard drives, motherboards and other hardware components at steep discounts. Therefore it makes sense that they can offer you "cheap" computers. But most of these computers use lower end processors such as Celerons or Semprons which do not provide the performance of Athlons or Pentium 4s.

The same holds true for software, they buy large quantities of Office and Windows from Microsoft and they are given a discount. Of course when you buy a computer prices are marked up a little so the company can make a profit.

If your husband is really interested in building computers (as a living?) or for himself I reccomend taking a look at Extreme Tech's step by step guide to building your own computer.

Also, the computer companies are not allowed to give you the original CD's for the software that is preinstalled. The only way that you can get the OS is compressed on a "System Restore" disc, this usually wipes everything out and starts over as if you just took it out of the box. Report It

If you think you might expand your network in the future then you need a server. This contains the software and the 3 PCs access the server. The server is also connected to the Internet with firewall.

You might be better off hiring a company that does networking.
HP's service department is in a country south of the Himalayas. Their computers are good, but their tech support would be better if they used Answers - I've seen better technical expertise here - from people who can't have graduated from high school - than I've gotten from HP Tech Support.

If you want internet connectivity, you'll need a router - whether you want to use wireless or not is your choice, but wired is faster (between computers - wireless is still far faster than your internet connection), more secure and easier to maintain. (Just look at all the "I get limited connectivity on wireless" questions here.) If all you want is to connect the computers to each other, all you need is a switch or hub, although you won't save much by not buying a router - maybe $25.

How many computers can I install Windows Vista with only 1 disc?adware remover

Probably won't fly. I know you speak of Windows Vista, but I assume it will work like XP and probably moreso. Let me quote from the WindowsXP Gigabook, by Peter Weverka.

"Windows installer makes you type the unique 25-character code that's printed on the case of your Windows XP CD. Later, the Product Activation programs looks at various serial numbers inside your PC - the processor, network card, and disk drives, etc. -- mixes them together, and produces a second 25-character code that identifies your PC. Those 50 characters, taken together, are called the installation ID.

When you activate Windows XP, you give Microsoft the 50 character installation ID.

I'm going to skip some information here -- to continue -- every time WindowsXP starts, it recalculates the 25-character code that's based on the various serial numbers inside your PC. If the recalculated 25-character code doesn't match your original code, the activation time clock starts over and it continues to remind you relentlessly, etc. etc.

All this and much more is covered in Chapter 2.

Can I run multiple computers with different public IP's on single router and Internet connectio

I have a Netcomm NB6Plus4W ADSL2+ modem router. My goal is to run multiple computers through a single router and Internet connection with each having a unique public IP address.

I have tested various software solutions that route web traffic (Web Browser) through public proxy servers but this does not change my IP for other TCP/IP applications. I need each computer to be identified as a completely seperate public IP address.

Is it possible to run multiple computers with different public IP's on single router and Internet connection? If so , how?

Remotely control computers?

i was hoping to control computers remotely. I was hoping to run a setup where the computers are on one floor, and i would control them from 2 floors up. the problem is, some of them are running Linux, and the others are running various versions of Windows (98, 2000, XP). So i dont think i can use a software program. also, i think the distance it too great to use a KVM switch (because of the VGA), so is there any way to accomplish this?

Do you mean remote control or remote session?

For Windows Remote control

Install logmein - just use free version

https://secure.logmein.com/products/free...

Then use your browser for the client - The client and server need WAN access.

Linux, Remote Session Try VNC server

install server on tux box

the clients also need VNCviewer included in the install.

What word rhymes with computers/ computer ?anti virus scan

Warning -- don't ever just copy a list from a web site:

For instance, many of those answers from rhymezone are (you will see if you click on their links) RARE SURNAMES. These are almost worthless for poetic purposes! And the LONGER rhymes tend to simply be the shorter ones included in longer phrases, not adding much really.

As for the list of computer terms -- there is just one web page that lists them (obviously the one the answer-er came across via a search).. but NO explanation of what most of the terms mean! And with such unusual rare or made-up terms that no one understands, you are again stuck with useless "rhymes".

I think/hope my list avoids those pitfalls (some are unusual, not necessarily that useful.. but all real words, not technical or proper names):

acuter, booter, bruiter, brooder, commuter, confuter, cooter, cuter, fluter, fruiter, hooter, imputer, looter, muter, neuter, pewter, polluter, recruiter, refuter, rooter, saluter, scooter, (straight-)shooter, suiter, suitor, tutor

Is Acer a good brand for computers?

I'm buying a new computer tonight, and Wal-mart has a few computers that I am considering.

I've never used an Acer computer, and was wondering if anyone who has one, how do you like it?

Here's the computer I was looking at:

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.d...

Is Acer a good brand for computers?anti virus

Acer does make good products although I can't necessarily speak for something you'd buy from Wal-Mart. But the specs on it look alright for basic word processing, e-mail, and Internet browsing. The processor is a little on the slower side, but should be fine for whatever you need it for. The main thing that I would look into about it is the RAM. It only comes with a gig of RAM. Vista tends to take up a lot of RAM as is. My laptop has 2 gigs of RAM and Vista at bootup uses about 46% of it. Thas nearly a gig on idle. You may want to look into getting another gig or so put in, otherwise, you may run into problems with your new computer running a little slow at times.

I have used a pretty low priced Acer laptop for 2 yrs and i must say i was quite impressed with the quality i got in that price. Acer has improved their product highly over the last 5 years, so would definitely recommend Acer.

Hello, you don't NEED Alienware to surf Internet my friend. Alienware computers are gaming systems.

You need a Dell. Shop at Dell and get what you want.

You have a great day.

These are very good computers. But getting one to "surf the net download music and burn cds" is like getting a Ferrari to sit in traffic while going to work.

Get a low end Dell. It will do what you want it to and you can use the extra bucks somewhere else.
Alienware computers are the top of the line gaming computers. If you're only a web surfer, don't put yourself in debt to get one. But if you have the means....I highly recommend picking one up.
You know. from a normal persons stand point. It's one heck of a computer. it's not the best computer on the market but it's in the very high end of computers.

If your not even remotely ever thinking about trying out the newest video games on the marktet. then i could recommend something alot slower.

Wireless printing from multiple computers?

I am trying to print from 2 diffrent computers on my wireless network.

Currently on my network i only have internet access shared, no file sharing or anything.

It is a Linksys G band router.

The printer is hooked up to the computer that is connected with wires to the computer.

Wireless printing from multiple computers?antivirus software

First both computers have to be a member of the same workgroup. I am assuming both computers are running on windows xp. Right click my computer, go to properties and then the computer name tab. The workgroup name should be the same on both, if you need to change it, click the change button. After that is done go to printers and faxes on the start menu. You should see the installed printer on the computer that has it physically connected. Right click the printer and click sharing and security. Choose the radio button for share this printer and type in the name that you choose for it. Click apply and OK and it should now show the printer with a hand under it. Now go to the other computer and go to printers and faxes. Choose the add a printer option which will open the wizard. Click next and then choose a network printer and click next. On this screen choose the option that says connect to this printer or browse for a printer and click next. On this screen it should show the computer name that has the printer and the name of the printer that you specified earlier. Choose that printer and click next. Your printer and faxes window should now show the printer.

Look around for a network printer server. They can be bought for about $50. Linksys makes the WPS54G, which is a wireless-G print server.

The print server connects to the printer; the router communicates with the print server and allows you to send any number of jobs from any number of devices (computers) connected to the router.

Network 2 Computers With Dial Up?

I need to network two computers together to share a dial up internet connection. I want to know the easiest way to do this and what equipment I will need. Please explain this to me as if I don't know much about networking, Please. Both of the computers have Windows XP, and both have a network card installed. Please explain what needs to be done next, SIMPLY. Thanks.

Network 2 Computers With Dial Up?computer repair

This can be accomplished very easliy by setting up Internet Connection Sharing on the computer with the dialup modem. You will also need a network hub (a small one will be fine) and two ethernet cables (CAT5e or better). Follow the steps listed on the link I'm providing for setting up ICS on the computer with the dialup modem. It will also guide you through setting up the other computer.

Network 2 Computers With Dial Up?free antivirus

Both users are right second one I agree with it will be too slow. But XP can be setup to where you can run another computer through it and use the internet.
The simplest way would be a dialup router with 1 or 2 external modems. This is plug and play and like a ethernet router, painless.

Don't be put off buy the price. If you look on ebay you can find RS-232 routers used for about $50 and RS-232 modems for $20
I can give you a link that deals with the internet connection Many of the problems can be solved by making software changes or small hardware corrections. Detailed instructions at http://tinyurl.com/yl62gz Try here if you can get what you wanted
i wouldnt even try it it can be done but it takes a lot of configuring not to mention how slow it will be you already know how slow dial up us now divide that by half you would be better off getting the 19.95 a month dsl and doing it

Can you have two computers run off the same monitor?

If you are trying to hook up two computers to one monitor, keyboard, mouse set up, then you need a KVM switch. You can buy them at your local computer store, from about $50-$100.

Click the link below for more info.

Can you have two computers run off the same monitor?free spyware remobal

No you cannot. Only one computer will be displayed at any one time.
sure jsut plug it in when you want it and he can when he wants it...you may want seperate speakers becasue ull have to plug those in everytime
You can have multiple computer connected to 1 monitor, 1 keyboard and 1 mouse. You can purchase what is commonly known as KVM switch that enables you to do that type of connectivities. Look for an IOGEAR 2 Port USB KVM switch. You will then connect both of your computer to the KVM switch and be able to switch the Monitor %26 input device using the KVM switch.
Yes, that is possible. You would have to hook them up at different times though. You couldn't have them both plugged in, and just switch over the monitor. What you would have to do, is just switch the plug that hooks up the monitor and computer. (It's usually a big blue cable.) It's pretty easy. Everytime that you would want to switch the monitor over, just unplug the cable from one computer, and then plug it into the other one. Hope this helps you! :)

Connect 2 computers without a router - see more below?

I need to connect a Windows XP Home laptop to a Windows 2000 desktop computer. I have the Cat5e cable.

How do I set up the networking stuff so I can share files?

Please be as detailed as possiable! This is for a friend who's not very good with computers.

Connect 2 computers without a router - see more below?computer virus

The above answer is partially right. You'll need either a cat5 "Crossover" cable, or 2 wireless cards (1 in each machine) and setup the wireless network as a ad-hoc.

The easier method is the crossover cable, it allows you to connect 2 pc's directly without needing the router, or switch.

Connect the 2 pc's with the cable, ensure that the workgroup names are the same (right click my computer, left click properties, look for the computer name tab, and check to make sure both pc's have the same workgroup name, if not, change one of them) You will need to share something on one of the two pc's, its easiest to drag what you want to share into the shared folder on the pc. Then use the search feature (start - search - computers or people - computer near you, and type in the name of the 2nd pc you have the shared files on) You might need to repeat the search a couple times, windows networking doesn't always work on the 1st attempt.

This is a brief explanation, and by no means comprehensive... there are dozens of ways of doing this, but I hope this will help you get to where you want to be!

Specs Of computers?

Okay I don't know much about computers, so if you have time on your hands and would like to help i'd really appreciate it.. i need to know answers for the fallowing questions.. thank you in adavance for a good answer in reply..

1) Whats a processor, and how do you know which one is good for gaming and that sort of stuff? How do you know which one is good in general? like for example AMD AthlonTM 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor 5200+.

2) what the difference between the slots PCI and the others.. and could you tell me names of others?

**3)Most important question.. I understand what a graphic card is, but how do you know which one is good? what nvidia geforece, and inter core duo processor and all that, I don't understand that.. i am looking for a good one for gaming..

I asked this cause i went and looked for computers in stores and couldnt understand anything under specs.. i am not a serious gamer, but i do want to play some games here and there.. please help me

Specs Of computers?download

The processor or CPU is the brains of the outfit. The faster the better (measured in megaHertz).

You can put other cards in PCI slots like TV or modem or sound cards. Other slots is PCIExpress for video cards (also AGP -older)

A good rule of thumb for gaming is to put the best in you can afford. Gaming requires a higher amount of processing so the better and faster the graphics card the faster the game can run because the CPU has a lot of work taken off it's little shoulders.

Multiple Copies of Vista on my computers?

I have read that you need two copies of Vista if you have two computers. I have a desk top and a laptop computer. What will happen if I load the same copy on both? Are the men from Microsoft going to come and have a word? Or will I not be allowed to register one of the computers? If that's the case, What difficulties could that computer develop? No updates etc..?

Multiple Copies of Vista on my computers?free spyware remover

well, one of you computers will be legal, and you will be allowed to register it, but the other one will be recognized with an illegal vista key, and most of the updates will be held off from your computer.

Multiple Copies of Vista on my computers?ktm

Well you must register the copy of Vista but copying it on another computer may be ok as longs the computer is in the same house, i think you should contact Microsoft first because each computer while connecting to the Internet has its own Identfication number it may work for a while or you may get a alerts saying you are using a copied vista or llegeal copy of windows its up to you, you may not get any down loads after a while just ask a question first there no harm in asking once i had a copy of Mcaffee i use on one computer the other computer was on a net work they said yes i could use the same licence as long it doesn't leave the house but i asked the question play safe always because of copyright laws
the little men in white microsoft coats with microsoft handcuffs will be knocking at your door. (or send you a email) asking you to buy a legal copy to go on both computers, i not they will deactiate you copy of vista.
The licensing of Vista is the same as XP, 1 copy and 1 licence per computer. Microsoft is very clever with the licence and I am not sure that you will be able to register twice.

If the key is rejected I am not sure what will happen but for sure you will not receive any updates.
I don't think MS stops you installing the same OP on multiple PCs. The problem it will cause will be unacceptable. Users usually build their own pc and change hardwar occasionally. The PC may be damaged and need to be changed. harddisk fails and OS needs to be reinstalled, and many other similar reasons. There may be a problem if the user tries to register the same OP under a different personal information. I am not sure. That could make more sense.

Do You Know Young Adults Who Do Not Like Computers & Internet?

This question is for the UNDER 30 crowd here in Answers. Do any of you know any of your peer group who really don't like computers, the internet and electronic technology? I know two young women, one age 22 and the other 24 who don't own computers of their own (they can afford them!) and shun technology. They are not in some weird anti-technology cults or anything. They grew up in an age where computers were in their classrooms. I find this so very strange. I am old enough to be their mom and I've had computers attatched to the outside world since the days of dial-up text only Compuserv. One of these girls sees computers as only work related drudges and the other sees no point in them for personal use. Her husband is a DVD producer.

I think these girls are doing themselves a disservice by not accepting computers as a part of life - both on and off the job. What do you "kids" think of this mindset in some people your age?

Do You Know Young Adults Who Do Not Like Computers %26 Internet?free spyware

From a "kid's" point of view, I think that not only are they doing themselves a disservice, they're being a little ignorant. Computers are a chunk of technology that we (as people, not "kids") are getting more and more dependent on. Later on, in the future, maybe the near future, where everyone is heavily dependent on these computers, then those girls are going to be clueless and be shunned from the entire community that uses technology.

he might have a volume license...He might even be an OEM dealer...or he might be a pirate...be wary...OEM dealers can tell you they are OEM dealers. if he seems shady then he probably is...
It sounds like he is selling illegal copies of the software on the computer.

He is most likely duplicating the harddrives in the systems. This can be done with a program like ghost.

It allows you to make an exact duplicate of a computer. I would not recommend using this guy at all for anything.

I would also recommend that you buy a valid copy of windows and the other software that is needed for your friend.

The cost is most likely going to more than buying a new computer from a reputable source that will give you the licensing and install media. So you may want to consider that as an option.

How can I remotely connect to computers on my home's network from a different network?

My house has a Windows PC and Mac mini that both connect to my Linksys WRT54G wireless router. When I'm at home on the network, I can connect to any of the computers using Chicken of the VNC on my own Mac. When I'm away from home I want to be able to remotely fix any problems with the computers because explaining it over the phone is usually too tough. I think this involves DNS updating (so I don't need to memorize IP address), setting fixed IP addresses for the computers so that I always know which one I am connecting to, setting different ports for each one for creating an SSH tunnel (I don't know how to do that), and setting up VNC server programs on each host computer. Any help is appreciated鈥攖hank you very much!

How can I remotely connect to computers on my home's network from a different network?hp

Basically, you'll need to have either a fixed ip or have dynamic IP resolution setup. Check out www.dyndns.org. By doing this, you can reach your firewall/router.

From there.... you'll have to tell your firewall/router that if the connection to certain port comes in, let it through for certain protocols and forward it to your PC or MAC.

Then, when you get to your PC or Mac, you have to have something listening. It can be VPN, SSH, or other (preferably) secure protocols.

Once you get that far, you are inside your network. You can launch a client software to get to any of your systems.

Try making one a slave drive out of the hard drive of the second computer thats what I did and this is where I learned how to do it...

When will computers be smart?

It sees to me that web sites like Ask Yahoo and Wikipedia will keep evolving until the computers "know" almost everything. How soon until a computer is aware like Skynet in the Terminator movies?

Do HP computers have a good reputation?

Are HP computers quality, are they better than Dell.

I was looking at a Dell desktop the Inspiron 530, but Dell have a bad reputation. I looked at a Packard Bell, it felt horrible plasticy and cheap

Then i looked at HP desktops, the Pavilion slimline, they look quality, but are they?

I want a computer to least me another 5-6 years

Thanks for an answers

the 16 year computer tech guy must work on ancient HP computers. i have been to their website several time and found instructions with pictures. i also added memory to my hp , it took about 2 minutes, i just snapped them in, no dis assembling anything. my hp does appear to be a solidly built machine.i chose the hp because like the other person said there are hate sites about dell and hp was the company i couldn't find much of anything bad about.

Do HP computers have a good reputation?nortan antivirus

Yes, they are good!
All computers are good, it depends what your going to use it for. If you can get that many years out of a computer your doing great. I would stay away from the slimlines. Buy a computer is hard work, look at up grades, processor speed, ram, operating system, and programs that you need installed. Sometimes it better to have it custom built with you need to have, it's cheaper in the long run.
H/P is the absolute best. If you'll check the hate websites you'll find all sorts of horror stories about the poor customer no-service at Dell. the computer I'm using to answer your question is can H/P Pavillion dv8000 wide screen. You ought to watch a movie on the screen. It's as close to high def as you can get.
Have worked with dozens of Dells and HPs. The HPs are usually rock solid machines and will run for years. However, they are often poorly engineered inside. They literally will hold down cables with duct tape, and place commonly accessed parts like the memory behind other parts so that you have to disassemble half the PC just to add memory. They are a nightmare to service.

I networked my home computers through a Broadband router & DSL modem after a few days we loose n

capability. I was tired of waiting to get on my computer because mine of course is the fastest, so the kids prefer it- dsl, 2 gig ram- anyway, I cancelled the dial-up service in my older sons room on his phone line, bought a US Robotics broadband router and networked my boys computers and mine to share the DSL connection- I am sure we won't lose any bandwidth, anyway after a couple days the kids computers continually stop recognizing they are networked and wont go on the internet. It takes tons of time to reconfigure. I am new to networking, it seems basic, however, could I be doing something wrong? I use the Win XP Pro network wizard and a disk I burned per choices the wizard gave me...any ideas or suggestions to prevent this reoccuring problem?

I networked my home computers through a Broadband router %26 DSL modem after a few days we loose network?ktm

OK, since you have a router the individual computers shouldn't be going through any processes involving wizards or disks. The Windows XP Internet connection sharing is designed to try and share a broadband connection WITHOUT a router (and that type of connection often does conk out after a couple of days- it attempts to have other machines connect to the Internet through your computer, instead of connecting directly to the router)

All machines should have their TCP/IP settings as "obtain an IP address automatically" and "obtain DNS server automatically" - that's all. Your router will be the gateway but you don't need to specify that manually.

Network two computers!!! Need help!?

I have a wireless router in my house connecting my windows xp home edition wirelessly to the internet. The thing is when i get a new computer it will be running vista home premium and i was wondering if someone in detail would explain how to network these two computers? And also could i be able to network them so that i could share the same user? Like the way schools do so the pupils can logon at different workstations and there work remains there? Please help me!

Make sure you are in the same workgroup %26gt; right click my computer %26gt; properties%26gt; computername. This is where you go to check and change your workgroup name.

The only way to log on from different places with the same user is within a domain which requires a domain controller "windows server 2003".
If you are connecting wireless, then it will only be a matter of doing a simple file share. Make sure both systems are in the same work group(right click my computer%26gt;%26gt;Properties %26gt;%26gt;Computer name tab change both to a group name and enable file sharing.

you wont beable to share the same user the way the school does unless you install a server. The server maintains the user profile.

Physics behind Computers?

(I hate to repost this, as I'm sure there is some rule against it, and for that I do apologize. I'm only doing it because I don't have a great deal of time left to complete the assignment, and I didn't receive a great deal of answers last time (but the answers were excellent may I add, so thank you!!!))

I'm writing this report on the physics behind computers throughout history, and I'm not quite sure what to put next... So far I've written about:

~ Thermionic Emission - Used in the old-fashioned vacuum tubes by using heat to emit electrons.

~ Transistors - Basically put what they are and how they work.

~ Magnetic Core Memory - Explaining how information is stored in the hard drive of the computer.

Any more ideas would be excellent!

Physics behind Computers?malware

You do realize that most people solve these assignments without Yahoo Answers?

;-)

Anyway. You still need to discuss semiconductor physics and especially CMOS technology and why it scales so well. Did you include that in the transistor section?

If you really want to talk about physics and computing, you would have to write something about thermodynamics and information, though. I am not sure giving you pointers is very useful, though. It might be a little bit too theoretical a field. But it will give you an idea how far we still are from the limits of computing and why Moore's law is not going to go away for many decades to come (but it will slow down).

Good Luck!

How do I download music from 2 different computers onto one iPod?

I have 2 computers, both with iTunes music on them. I am going to buy an iPod. How can I get the music off of both computers onto my iPod? The guy at Best Buy told me you have to register the iPod to one computer and I won't be able to download from both computers. Unless I get the music from one on a cd, I don't know how to do that, he said something about "data" on the cd?? There are over 500 songs, so without having to use 25 or more blank cd's to download my music, is there a short cut? If you reply, please speak in easy to understand terms, I don't know a whole lot about computers, so I have to know exactly how to do it step by step. Thanks!!!!!

How do I download music from 2 different computers onto one iPod?mcaffee

1.Try putting the Manual option on. If you don't know how,

After you connected the ipod to the computer, it'll appear on the source bar on your left. Rightclick on your iPod and it'll bring up a popup menu, click on Ipod options, then put it on manual.

2. doesn't one of the computers have internet connection? If it doesn't, that prolly the reason, 'cause the computer doesn't reconize what an ipod is.

3. If you have a Flashdrive, just use that to move a couple of songs from one computer to the other

Can I connect 2 computers by wi-fi without any internet-connection?

A friend of mine out in east Africa wants to network some computers and printers together in an isolated building miles from the internet and create a wi-fi hotspot around it. Do you know if it can be done by wi-fi without an internet-connection, and if so how?

If he uses a standard wi-fi router which expects to connect via DSL/ADSL to the internet, will it fail to link the computers if it can't establish an internet-connection?

Is there a router specially designed for isolated office-intranets?

Does anyone make equipment to link 2 computers by wi-fi directly, without a router?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Can I connect 2 computers by wi-fi without any internet-connection?microsoft office

Just use a standard wifi router, if it doesnt see the internet, no big deal, the computers can still talk to each other without an internet connection. It wont disable the LAN, the wifi hot spot will be there and will work, just no one will be able to get on the net since there is no internet access point.

Can I connect 2 computers by wi-fi without any internet-connection?norton antivirus

Yes you can do that. An internet connection is not required. They can be networked through a crossover cable (give the machines fixed IP addresses in the same subnet) or hardwired through a router or wirelessly through a router. You can also link computers through their wireless adapters only by creating an ad hoc network.

How do i access computers on my wireless network with my wired pc?

I have three computers on a wireless network, and one wired to my wireless router via LAN cable. I am trying to make it so that I can access files on my wireless network computers via my hard wired PC. they are all connected to the same router. I can connect the wireless ones but cannot see the wired one. Is there a way to allow the wired computer to connect to the wireless side of the router? thanks

How do i access computers on my wireless network with my wired pc?microsoft

So long as all pc's are on the same network, you should be able to share files.

Trying sharing a folder on the wired pc and try searching for network folders.

It should pop up.

Also, make sure that you have disabled the firewall for the wired pc so allow wireless ones to gain access.

Also check that your sharing options are not set to private.

Hope this helps

How do i access computers on my wireless network with my wired pc?norton ghost

You may find the answer here

http://www.e-tutes.com
They are all on the same router, hence the same network. If you can not see them when you go to my network places, it is because your network is not configured properly, or your permissions are set so resources are not shared. One thing to do is make sure they all share the same network name. Also make sure at least one folder is shared on all of them.

Can macintosh computers get viruses?

I got this APPLE laptop and I thought that i should install some kind of virus protection on it. I have always had PCs and i was always told to protect them. My friends told me not to bother getting protection because Apple computers do not get viruses. I know this a stupid question but i really want to know, so i can best protect my computer..

Thanks!!

Can macintosh computers get viruses?moto guzzi

There are no in the wild OS X viruses, but as Mac market share grows (up from 2% to 8% overall in the last 5 years), it becomes a bigger potential target. Also, it is susceptible to viruses aimed at Word and Excel that can work cross platform, if you have those programs installed. For Mac users, I recommend Intego Internet Security Barrier -

http://www.intego.com/isb/

Intego has been developing Mac security software for 10 years, and based on my experience with other security packages on Macs, I find Intego offers superior performance compared to other companies' software. Their products have received excellent reviews in MacWorld.

Should there be a group at school that cleans and fix the computers in the computer lab?

Our school has BRAND new computers. There not even a year old yet and already many basic parts of the computer are broken like the keyboard and mouse of a computer. Our computer instructer has retired, so ther is not someone reparing the computers. Out of about 50 computers in our lab, about 30 laptops are always rented by teachers. Right now, there is about 6 laptops that are unresonsive, and 2 desktop computers that are not working as well.

I'd say yes. Your school's computers are in bad shape I think. I am a pro at fixing and servicing windows computers, but I'm not in your school.

Maybe you should try ot raise some money to start a computer fixing group. There are many ways to raise money.

Unable to connect multiple computers to my router?

I am trying to link 3 computers to a DSL line (SBC Yahoo) and am unable to achieve more than one active internet connection. I installed the DSL software on each computer which may be my problem. Each computer shows an active LAN connection. The modem is a Speedstream 5100. The router is BEFSR41 Linksys. Any suggestions?

Most times the DSL software isnt even needed...they just want you to install their programs.

Windows should recognize the connection.

Are you sure you have a NIC card in all three computers

And yes each computer should show an active LAN connection

Also check ur connections on the router...do you have them all connected right?

hope that helps

Unable to connect multiple computers to my router?nortonantivirus

For each PC on your network. Open your browser, click Tools, Internet Options, Connections tab. Click Lan Settings. Make sure the only box thats checked is Automatically Detect Settings. Click on Advanced Tab and click Restore Defaults.

Next go to your desktop, right click Network Neighborhood or Network Places. Click Properties, Right Click the Local Area Connection then properties. Scroll down to your TCP/IP Internet Protocol. Click to highlight then click Properties. Make sure Obtain IP Address Automatically is checked and Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically is checked. Nothing else should be checked. Shut off your modem and router and power down the PC's. Restart your modem and router then restart your computers. That should do ya.
If they're all connected via an RJ45 cable (ethernet), then it should just work.

If you're connecting them via WiFi, make sure there's a WiFi card in all of the systems first, and then go in and check the WEP settings for your router (http://192.168.1.1)

Networking/ hooking up 2 computers?

how do i hook 2 computers together in 2 diff rooms.i want to play online and offline games with my son, me vrs him or us together in a game as a team...my computer is in the front room his computer is in his bed room..about 100 feet apart.

Networking/ hooking up 2 computers?nortan

The most cost effective method would be a cross-over cable, like a category 5 ethernet cable - and as the first answerer stated, both PCs need a network card.

Cat 5 is 8 wires in 4 twisted pairs. Typically in a non-crossover scenario the cable uses 2 pair for output and 2 pair for input.

In a crossover scenario the cable acts as a "loop" between two nodes.

Good Luck!

How do I network my Vista and XP computers to share everything?

I have been trying to set up my home network all day. I have done a ton of reading and how to sites. I can not get my 2 computer to see each other. My main computer is Vista Home Premium and I want to connect and share everything with my XP Home machine. Here is what I know about my current setup.

I have satellite so my dish connects to my modem then to a hub. So one cable connects to the hub with the signal and then both computers connect to the hub for internet access. That all works perfectly. Now, what I want to do is to be able to see and share all files, folders, and such with both machines. So I know I have to set up a home network. That is where I am having trouble. How do I get the 2 computer to see each other? I have tried to do the set up of a home network and I have not been sucessful. I am lost totally. Both computer are protected with Bitdefender Total Security 2008. I would like to find someone who will work with me one-on-one by IM or email to get my home network set

Ok,

Today I tried to network my VISTA laptop with my XP workgroup (4 computers total)

After I lost the rest of my hair I never had, I got it, all by keeping it simple. My Vista could map to XP, but not XP to Vista.

First the BASICS:

1. Same workgroup, add TRUSTS to your FIREWALL (this will get people every time), I suggest not using the windows firewall or Norton ANYTHING (that is another blog altogether) I use Zone Alarm.
