i was hoping to control computers remotely. I was hoping to run a setup where the computers are on one floor, and i would control them from 2 floors up. the problem is, some of them are running Linux, and the others are running various versions of Windows (98, 2000, XP). So i dont think i can use a software program. also, i think the distance it too great to use a KVM switch (because of the VGA), so is there any way to accomplish this?
Remotely control computers?anti virus protection
Do you mean remote control or remote session?
For Windows Remote control
Install logmein - just use free version
https://secure.logmein.com/products/free...
Then use your browser for the client - The client and server need WAN access.
Linux, Remote Session Try VNC server
http://www.tightvnc.com/download.html
install server on tux box
the clients also need VNCviewer included in the install.
Remotely control computers?antivirus
Pretty sure you can still ssh and use putty on Windows. Haven't used VMWare before, but I heard it works. Usually I only ssh between *nix boxes so I'm not sure with Windows but I know you can still use putty to ssh
