I have two computers that are connected to internet through a router. the desktop has a bigger HDD, I want share files between these two computers, or monitoring the other computer. I would like to know if I need special software to do so or I can build connection within the OS. My laptop runs win2000, desktop windows XP pro. Any related advices are appreciated. Thank you Computer gurus.
How to share files between two computers through internet router ?virus protection software
You should be able to do this by configuring Win XP correctly. Try right-clicking on any folder and choosing the "Sharing" tab. Then you can share the folder between two computers. Now, each computer has a name. Go to "System" in the Control Panel and then click Network Identification, where you can find out or change the computer's network name. To reach a computer on the network, choose Start | Run and then type "\\name" where "name" is the name of the other computer. Depending on the security configuration of Win XP (which I don't know how to manage--sorry), you may be asked for a user name and password to access the other computer or a folder within it.
