Do colleges require certain computers?

I'm a high school senior and I want to get a laptop. Right now I have a regular (desktop) computer and, along with my printer, it takes up all of the space on my desk. If I get a laptop, I'll have more space on my desk to do homework. That really is my main reason. I asked my parents and they said sure, except that they had heard that some colleges require certain computers. They think I should wait until I go to college to get a laptop. I've never heard of this. Is it true? Do different colleges require different computers? Thanks. :)

I've never heard of such thing. Colleges don't care about the computer you use so long as you get your papers to them typed and with a legible, standard font. Most computers have the exact same capabilities so there's not really a reason for them to pick and choose.
Usually desktop computers are placed on larger computer desks and that might be part of the problem. But you should wait until college, when laptops are a necessity and become more crucial. that way you will be able to get the latest technology at a time when you need it most. and no I have never heard of colleges requiring a particular type of computer except perhaps for certain majors, such as business or computer science or certain types of engineering. wait until college definitely, though. it's more important then.
I have never heard of this. My experience has been that college is full of situations where you will be expected to have a computer, but not any specific kind. I got through my first year with an old mac laptop and the rest with a desktop running windows, and neither way was really a problem.
Some colleges make recommendations on brands or types of computers. They also have special deals and sell the types they recommend at a student discount. That being said, some colleges, like art schools, strongly recommend Macs, some business schools recommend Windows. Check with the colleges you may be applying to.
College may require certain types of software, but not usually certain types of computers. You may also be able to get a discount as a student---some schools have deals with certain companies. Wait until you know where you plan to go -- then ask the school. And wait for a sale.
