What are the best gaming computers?

My laptop is dead, my desktop runs on Windows 98. I need a new computer. I don't know whether or not I should get a laptop or a desktop. I love Sony Vaio's, both of my computers are. But, I was wondering what the best gaming computers were?

Is Gateway good? Or can you suggest any Sony Vaio's?

-- I also plan to watch movies on it a lot, and DL quite a bit. :[ Help meeee. :[

I have owned many gaming computers...the best thing you could do is to build your own, not only will you learn more about computers but you will save money in the process. But if u feel that your computer skills are not up to par. Then I would look at Alienware *www.alienware.com (owned by dell) is specialized for gaming and have prices from $500-$15,000. If you cant find anything there i would greatly recomend Voo Doo computers. Again, they are specialized gaming computers.

Good luck finding something that fits your needs!

... just checked that Alienware is out of your price range.

then i would recomend a Dell XPS. They usualy have a great setup for what you need for gaming. I HIGHLY RECOMEND YOU GET A COMPUTER THAT SUPPORTS A GRAPHICS CARD FOR DIRECT X10!!!

I wouldnt get a gaming laptop. One issue with them is overheating and lack of upgrading. Trust me...you will spend twice as much for a laptop that has the same performance as a desktop would.

I built my own computer for under $1.1K. All new parts. Runs games really well (175-225 fps on CoD4). It's really the way to go if you ask me, and it is not hard.

www.newegg.com

if you want a good gaming computer, be prepared to spend well over $4000...

check out the dell's new line of xps laptops... (they also sell alienware on there site...) its pretty wicked... and wickedly expensive
