i am installing additiona RAM in my notebook and i read that you have to access the computers BIOS for the computer to detect the additional RAM installed after you physically install it anyone know how to do this?!?
What is a computers BIOS and how do i access it to detect a RAM upgrade?anti virus protection
After you install additional RAM and you boot up your system, the BIOS will tell you the amount of RAM has changed. You can choose to continue booting (and eventually showing the loging page or desktop of your windows) or go to BIOS section.
When you are login into your operating system (let's say windows), you can check if the total RAM has increased. If not, then there is possibility the kind of RAM installed is not compatible with the motherboard of your system.
To access into BIOS, you do this:
1. Boot up your computer and watch the screen closely
2. There should be instruction like press F2 or Del to enter the BIOS. This happening only few seconds, so you must act fast. If you have Windows logo on the screen, then you missed it. Reboot your system and try step 2 again.
One thing you need to be careful is not to mess up the settings in BIOS. Any wrong settings might prevent your system from boot up correctly. Again, unless you know what you are doing, stay away from BIOS. If you are not comfortable, get someone who is familiar with computer to help you.
Hope it helps...

as long as you install the same type of ram, you dont have to boot into the bios. Windows will automatically recognize it, when you right click on my computer you should see how much ram you now have.
