Why don't computers now have serial ports for easy file transfer using windows xp instead of bu

win xp has a file transfer system between computers that requires a cable connection beteen their serial ports but now most computers do not have serial ports so cant use this method must buy software to use usb connection or buy hardware to make a local network.i have 2 compaqs one with only floppy drive and new one with only dvd drive so a cable transfer is only option other than using something like a zip drive wiin xp makes it easy buy requires only serial ports WHY?

You can buy inexpensive serial cards off EBay.

Most people use usb hard drives because they are cheap and fast. You can carry 1GB on a key chain!

Serial ports cannot handle the transfer speeds that USB ports can. Also serial ports do not have the flexibility that USB ports do, so they are not included in most newer PCs. Hence they are now obsolete, like the floppy disk, the ISA slots, etc.
