Computers starts up by itself everytime theres an incoming phone call.?

I recently had DSL installed at my residence and now my computers starts up by itself everytime theres an incoming phone call. Can anyone tell me what might be causing this? Any idea if it's a hardware or software problem? (If it matters, I'm using ATT/Yahoo DSL).

Computers starts up by itself everytime theres an incoming phone call.?windows

in your BIOS there is a settinng that lets the LAN turn on your computer. Turn it off

check your BIOS settings, there should be something like:

WOM

WOL

LAN Wakeup

Wake On LAN

then set it to Disabled,

if you tell us your motherboard model i can give you step by step instructions to turn it off
PRINT %26 FAX preferences in your computer need to be changed so that the Fax is turned off.... Good luck
To get into BIOS, every computer is different. Right when you see the splash screen when your computer turns on, press F1 or F2 or DELETE. One of those three buttons should get you into BIOS. Then you can go in and turn off your WOL (wake on LAN). Good LUCK!
Isn't that cute ? The phone and the computer are having an affair. DSL or "Digital Subscriber Line" allows a computer to communicate over telephone line by splitting the signal to operate on a different wave length. I hope your not envious :)
Make sure you have the "filters" installed like the instructions tell you. Make sure that you don't have the computer to start up on LAN, this may be a setting in your computers bios. it may be interpreting the phone call as a "wake on LAN" message
Your machine is sitting there, turned off, and when the phone rings it comes on?

I've never heard of that before. Maybe your machine isn't actually off? If you leave them idling, most newer computers will automatically turn off the screen to save power, and all you have to do is move the mouse, or hit a key to make it come back on.

Maybe your machine is on, and the vibration of the phone is moving the mouse enough to turn the monitor on - otherwise what you describe is impossible.

Update: I forgot about the wake on lan - try that.
It sounds like wake on lan is enabled in the BIOS
actually you have WAKE ON RING enabled in your BIOS, ignore the answers that are talking about wake on lan, since when has a phone been a part of a lan?
