Please dont be too amused by the following if is sounds rediculous even to those with basic computer know how. I know absolutely nowt about computers and my friend has been given one off her local freecycle. It is a Packard Bell model Club 60 bought in 2000 and she was given a packard bell symphony boot disk with it. She put in the disk and cd and began the standard system restore to restore it to the original factory setting but it gets so far then says no hard drive!! Does this mean the computer is useless? Can it be repaired or part replaced, if so what is entailed and how much might this cost. This computer was aparently only been used for home use and has never been set up on internet.
Can anyone advise a complete novice about computers?vincent
Sounds like it might just need a new hard drive... Harddrives are usually about dead after 4-6 years... So if its from 2,000, its past its due :P....
Try picking up a new HD it will be called an IDE HD (IDE is the connection type).... They can run about 20-40 bucks depending on what you get... You dont need a large one so dont let them sell you a super big one.
Other than that, it might just be an error on those floppy disks you say she is using, floppies are crappy and dont last long, they are very fragile and anything can make them not start working...
Hopefully you have the install CD etc...
