I am looking into options for changing my career from computers. I have masters in computer science with a little over 5 yrs experience and I am not happy with what I do. I really don't like my field where I sometimes wonder what is this coding, for whom am I doing. I feel I need a more practical field where I work with real life experience, real people rather than machines and write java code for a corporate world. I have always wanted to do medicine but given my age and family, baby factors and the amount of years (almost 10) involved its practically not feasible after discussing with my husband. Any brainstorming ideas will be helpful for me to look into and think further. Any business ideas will also help.

Hi - I wish I had your credentials! Anyway, I don't know much about it personally, but I believe pharmaceutical and genetics companies have postions (like biostatistician) that look for people with your qualifications. I suppose it's still "corporate," but at least it's also aimed at helping people. Good luck.

A really good place to look for direction is the US Dept. of Labor. The US Dept. of Labor has a great web site for researching occupations of all sorts. You might want to check this out to do get the some answers to your question, and to do your research: http://www.bls.gov/oco/ho
