300 computers with half on Windows 98 and the rest on 2000. Would be be cheaper to buy new computers

That will have the new software we require (Outlook, Office, Project) with XP already with the correct licensing to use on multiple computers.

Or would it be cheaper (or take less time) to install a new OS, take the time to install all the software we need, upgrade the hardware for network capabilites, etc?

It would be cheaper to buy as a tender/bulk contract from local computer supplier with perinstalled everything for you.

With 300 computers, you should be getting a big discount. Just make sure you specify your requirements clearly to your suppliers.

If half of your computers are on win98, I suppose your computers should be retiring soon and are quite out-dated in terms of speed, memory, harddisk and sorry, should be everything.

with 300 comps you'd be better off with a central server so that all 300 computers can access the programs you want on that server ... you only have to do 1 install and purchase the required licenses for as many users as you'll have at one time
