How to share usb printer between 2 computers using windows xp and vista?

I have 2 different operating systems windows professional and windows vista on 2 different machines and i am trying to share a usb printer and it is not letting me add the printer on my vista machine but they both are networked. The printer is installed on the windows professional computer. I have allowed both computers to share and went into printer properties and told it to share also. on my vista machine i can find the printer but not connect. I turned my firewalls off to do this action but still no results. I have downloaded all the drivers i need also. Please help.

Most likely you need Vista Premium to do this, unless you want to get a wireless print server set up (wireless usb reciever) In theory it should work no matter what, however thaat has not been my experience, especially with vista basic/home.

depends on which is hosting the printer...

the drivers are the same, so a printer is a pinter....

on the PC hosting the printer...

start, printers...

right-click on the printer and share it...

next.... create a user account for the access...

start, run, compmgmt.msc

on the right, click users and groups... then users...

Right-click on the white space and select new user....

create on with the same creds as you login to the other PC with...

next find the IP of the machine...

start, run, cmd

type in ipconfig and note the IP address..

On the PC you want to connect a printer too....

start, run,

type in \\ (ip address)

ex \\192.168.1.2

go into the printers share and double click on the printer.....

if you are asked for creds, type in the ones we created a moment ago....
