How can I access the other computers on my home network?

I have a Linksys wireless router, a Dell desktop and an IBM laptop, both running Windows XP Pro. Both computers belong to a workgroup called OurNet. From the desktop, I can see the laptop in My Network Places but it won't let me in gives me a dialog box that I'm not allowed in and to talk to an admin. From the laptop I get the same dialog box, but at the workgroup level - it shows me the name of the workgroup but it won't show me which computers belong to the workgroup. I have set up shares on both computers. What am I missing?

BTW, my son took the laptop to a school sponsored "LAN Party" and had a similar issue - could get "on" the network but could not access any file servers, and no one could access his shared folders. Whether or not that's a good thing is an issue for another day, but I'd like to get it to work so that at least these two computers can trade files back and forth, share a printer, etc.

1st enable sharing, 2nd you have to set up a home network under start/my network places/set up home or small..network.

go through the steps and also made sure both routers and firewall for cpus are configured to allow each cpu to see the other. (use network address)

Math + Art + Computers = ?

I'm really confused right now about what I should major in. Many people have told me to just go with whatever I love doing.. I'm currently enrolled in the nursing program.. but like in my question i put math + art + computers cause these are the three things I enjoy the most. Science is my least favorite subject! So, i really don't know what i'm getting myself into! So, i'm hoping you guys could help me out here! I'd really appreciate it!

What do you guys think would be a good career for me to pursue, considering it has to do with math, computers, and art? Any suggestions? Salary information would be a plus too! Advanced thanks!

Everything involves computers these days, so that's not really not much to add in your equation. Maybe architecture?

Can you still buy computers with Windows XP on them?

I am thinking about getting a new desktop but do NOT want Vista. All of the computers at stores like Best Buy %26 Circuit City have Vista. Is there anywhere to buy a computer with XP on it? Or can you put XP on a computer with Vista?

Can you still buy computers with Windows XP on them?panda

No promises here, but I work at Best Buy and in our store in particular we still have a couple of computers with Windows XP on them... plus they are on really good clearance prices since they need to get rid of them... this is the case for most any place that sells computers... Also, online there are still places that sell computers with Windows XP on them....

Can you still buy computers with Windows XP on them?suzuki

go to PC world that is were i got mine from
YESS i just bought a new pc and im a gamer and xp is supposed to be better than vista on games so yess u still can get them because i got mine yesterday
u could put windows xp on vista.

u could buy your computer from dell. it comes with windows xp and more stuff
You can put xp on a machine that's got vista now why not go down to you local computer retailer and ask them to sell you a computer with xp on it, it wouldn't take long to remove vista and install xp
Of course you can put XP on a computer with Vista.
the online stores would be more likely to have xp still available.

How many computers can you put adobe photoshop on?

I just got adobe photoshop. I was wondering how many computers can you put it on? Just one, or is it like other software? (put it on as many computers as you want)

How many computers can you put adobe photoshop on?photoshop

If while you are installing it on your computer AND read the EULA, you will see that you are allowed to install on 2 computers but not use the two at the same time.

Career in computers: what to choose from what?

I am about to finish my college during which I studied computers, physics and maths. I want to study computers but which fields are available ?

Career in computers: what to choose from what?pop up blocker

Just the PC world is hiring. Otherwise you might want to rethink your major.

Career in computers: what to choose from what?systemworks

Forget what texan said, crappy generalization! The IT world is still a world full of prospects. What you wanna study depends on which field you interested in. Also depends on certain other factors. Like networking has the least math involved while programming has the most. Networking and web designing/programming are two of the most lucrative areas right now!
there are alot of fields available whats your major/degree?

you should have or continue to take different types of computer classes so you will know what you like...., networking, troubleshooting, internet, web development, security, computer forensics, hardware, software, programming...theres a lot....

Avid Editing and Building Computers?

I am a video production student, who is just starting to learn the Avid system. I'd like to buy the program we have with is Xpress Pro. That's not an issue, get the student discount, etc, but what exactly are all these other external parts I am finding? Are they just the different ways to get footage onto your computer, or do you need something other then the program itself to run the program?

In another subject, I would like to build my own computer that would be compatible for this program and all it does. I know a bit about computers already, and some of the basic parts, but what, especially for the Avid program would some of the are some of the parts and models of which (for space and making sure the program runs nice and smoothly on it) that I would need?
